3 Reasons Why You Should Wear Sunglasses in Winter

Summer might not be around the corner, but there are still some bright sunny days mid February. When these sunny days happen, we’re usually squinting to see because of the bright sun and the reflection off of the snow. Why would you wear sunglasses in the winter, right? Here are 3 reasons why you should definitely be wearing them this winter.

  1. Guard your eyes – The strong rays from the sun can cause a lot of eye damage. Just like your skin, your eyes can get sunburnt as well. If you have reoccurring direct sunlight damage to your eyes, it can cause more serious issues in the long run. That’s why, just like the summer time you should be wearing your sunglasses in the winter as well because the sun is just as damaging. Even if you feel like the sun isn’t that strong, the rays can indirectly damage your eyes. So as you’re putting on your winter hat and gloves, make sure you’re also grabbing your sunglasses.
  2. Improve sight – No matter the winter activities you’re interested in, sunglasses are an important part of your apparel. Winter sun is super bright, especially with the reflection from the snow. Occasionally, we might feel blinded or like you’ve lost eyesight because of the brightness. Sunglasses can make you see clearer, with no irritating squinting that could make your eyes water. Your favourite pair of sunglasses will improve your sight.
  3. Reduce eyestrain and headaches –  When our eyes are exposed to direct sunlight they can become tired and tense, which can cause eyestrain and headaches. When the light is very bright, the pupil constricts trying to protect the retina from the amount of light trying to penetrate it. However, if the light is very bright it’s hard to constrict enough light exposure. This can cause squinting, which can lead to eyestrain and possible headaches. Sunglasses work as a shield to protect our eyes from this very bright light. You should always remember to pack your sunglasses, even in the winter!
